CHAPTER THIRTEEN
M artin found the mission where he and Brandon found Dane. He stood in line for a sandwich and found a spot on the floor to sit against the wall. Seeing a cap on the floor, he grabbed it, stuck it on his head and proceeded to eat his sandwich. He wondered how long it would be before he was found.
In Germany, Steve landed the jet near the end of the runway. A ravine was barely visible on the right.
“This is where Martin jumped from the steps,” Brandon said.
Alec grabbed his arm. “Wait a minute. I think we should disguise ourselves somewhat before we are seen.”
“Do you have something to do that with?” Brandon asked. “I don’t normally carry stuff like that around wit h me.”
“I have my bag. Sit down a mi nute.”
Brandon sat down and Alec studied his features; short brown hair, brown mustache, dark eyebrows, dark brown eyes. Alec opened his bag and took out a small collapsible cup and put white liquid in it. Then he took out a small comb, dipped it in liquid and started to comb it through Brandon’s hair.
“Hey!” Brandon said, raising his hand to catch the comb.
“It will come out,” Alec told him. “But you need some kind of disg uise.”
“Okay.” Brandon scowled, but sat still.
Alec combed the liquid through his hair, then his mustache and eye brows.
“Do you keep a change of clothes in this plane?” Alec asked.
“In that small closet,” Steve said. He opened the door so Alec coul d see.
“Hmm.” He looked through the suits and blazers. Blue jeans hung neatly over hangers. Alec took off his own jacket, laid it over a seat and slipped on one of the bl azers.
“Hey boss,” Steve said. “It fits him as good as it does you.”
“Let’s trade jackets,” Alec tol d him.
Brandon took Alec’s jacket and put it on.
“You look pretty good,” Steve comm ented.
“Let’s go,” Brandon said and led the way to the s tairs.
Alec said nothing, but rushed toward the ravine, leaving Brandon hurrying to catch up wit h him.
Brandon ran to catch up. “Hey! We don’t want to attract any atten tion.”
Alec n odded.
“This looks like the spot where they were,” Steve comm ented.
“Look,” Alec said, picking up an object. “It’s Martin’s w atch.”
Brandon looked at it. The watch looked like it could have been on the ground for awhile. “What makes you think its Mart in’s?”
“Because I gave it to him,” Alec said st ernly.
“Sorry. Listen, I know we got off to a bad start. Can we just make the best of it and not growl at each o ther?”
“Okay.” Alec continued looking around the area.
Seeing nothing more of the incident, they headed for the jet. “Steve, stay here and be ready to move when we get back.”
“Gotcha, boss,” Steve said, saluting. He turned around, climbed the stairs and went back to the cockpit of th e jet.
In the United States . . .
“You should be quite comfortable here.” Captain Meyers showed Dane the “safe h ouse.
